What type of deal the Detroit Red Wings get for Dylan Larkin will depend on which team they can deal with.

Not all can do ‘hockey trades,’ and some only futures

Daily Faceoff: David Pagnotta, when asked what type of trade return the Detroit Red Wings may want for Dylan Larkin, and what teams might be interested, and what do they have to give up?

Tyler Yaremchuk: “Is this a, you know, (Matthew) Tkachuk for, oh, wow, (Jonathan) Huberdeau and (Mackenzie) Weegar, and look, the Flames are going to keep going. Or is this a Quinn Hughes for wow, Zeev Buium, all these future assets and young prospects? Like, which way do you think is more likely they end up having to go here?

Darnell Nurse Requests a Trade, a Cale Makar Extension, and the Senators’ Interest in Mason McTavish

Pagnotta: “I mean, if it’s Minnesota, you’re going in that direction. You’ve got the kids, you’ve got the picks, that’s probably the direction you’re going in.

If it’s Vegas, it’s probably more closer to hockey trade, but I’m struggling to find a pathway to where Vegas makes sense. Unless it’s like Tomas Hertl, and you know he’s good with it. I just, I don’t know if, if there’s a pathway here.

Because I don’t see them moving (Pavel) Dorofeyev. I know everyone’s pointing at that one, being like, ‘oh, that makes the most sense, he’s an RFA.’ Okay, yeah, but they still have the money to sign him with (Alex) Pietrangelo on season-ending LTIR. That’s basically Dorofeyev money. You giving away a 40-goal scorer just for an opportunity to get this guy? I, hell of a player, but I don’t know if they do that.

Florida is interesting because you can combo the ninth overall pick with other things. You know, so in San Jose’s got a lot of good young talent. I highly doubt they’re moving the second overall pick for in a deal there. But you know, Dallas, they got to figure out all their stuff internally. I don’t know where they get the money.

NHL Rumors: Dylan Larkin, Zach Werenski, Auston Matthews and Anders Lee

It does put, as I said earlier, it does put (Red Wings GM Steve) Yzerman in a rough spot, and it may have to lead them to a futures type of deal, which is just going to prolong that rebuild rather than shake things up now in order to get them to the playoffs.
