- Rory Boylen of Sportsnet: Andrew Ladd hit the rumor mill after reports that contract extension talks between him and the Winnipeg Jets have broken off, and with the Jets turning their attention to Dustin Byfuglien. Ladd talked about his contract status and if he’ll be a Jet after this season.
“I don’t know. That’s a question for both sides,” he said. “I can’t answer that question.”
“Anybody in this situation, the easiest thing to have happen is to get something done and understand where you’re going to be, for you and your family. That’s ideal,” he said. “That’s not how it happens every year. Like I said, I’m not the only one going through this process, a lot of guys around the league do it year to year. I know there are guys on one-year deals that have this happen every single year.”
- Paul Friesen: Andrew Ladd on being traded: “It’s hard for me to see that. But I’ve also been around long enough to realize that anything can happen.”
- Paul Friesen: Ladd on if his contract status is affecting the team: “No. I’m pretty sure I’ll be here tomorrow. It doesn’t affect anything we’re trying to do in here.”
- Paul Friesen: Ladd on how the contract talks have dragged on: “If you ask both sides, we would have both said we’d have something done by now.”
- Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Pierre LeBrun on TSN 1040 on Andrew Ladd and the Florida Panthers.
“I will say this. It’s funny that we talked about Andrew Ladd. If there’s one team that I feel is an amazing fit for Andrew Ladd, it’s Florida, in my opinion. I don’t know if the Panthers can swing it. And again, we don’t even know if the Jets are willing to move him yet, either. But if the time comes where Andrew Ladd is on the market, Dale Tallon has a history with Ladd in Chicago. I just feel like that would be a tremendous fit.
“So who knows. Keep that in the back of your mind in case it actually becomes something that makes sense down the road.”
- Eklund of Hockey Buzz: Three sources since the weekend have said that Canadiens could make a run at Andrew Ladd. Both Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien could be traded. One GM said that some people believe the Jets are being smart about pulling Byfuglien off the table to help maximize potential return.
