Warrant for Graham James … Sutton out 6-8 weeks … Sharks juggle lines … League may have to plug Devil loophole
Mark Easson
CP in the Globe and Mail: A Canada wide warrant will issued today for Graham James, a convicted sex offender. Winnipeg police are expected to lay new charges against James. Theo Fleury, and other have come forward wishing to press charges against him.
Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Anaheim Ducks defenseman Andy Sutton will miss 6-8 weeks after having surgery yesterday on his broken right thumb. Sutton broke it fighting Ruslan Salei.
Mark Emmons of the San Jose Mercury News: The San Jose Sharks have been juggling lines so far this season, and it will likely continue. Their big 3, find themselves on different lines: Thornton centering Jamie McGinn and Devin Setoguchi, Joe Pavelski centering Patrick Marleau and Torrey Mitchell, and Logan Couture centering Dany Heatley and Ryane Clowe.
Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: The Dallas Stars internal budget is $45 million, and will remain at that, unless a buyer for the club is found before. The Stars in the past have been rumored to be interested in adding a puck moving defenseman, but that will be hard to do within their budget. Brad Richards could be moved at some point this season as they may not be able to work on an extension. The recently arrested Mike Ribeiro, has been linked to rumors in the summer, but his $5 million a season for the next 3 years may scare teams off.
Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Atlanta Thrashers coach expects 2010 1st round pick, Alexander Burmistrov, to remain with the club for the rest of the season. The Thrashers have 9 games to decide to send him back to Junior or burn a year of his contract and keep him in the NHL.
Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail: The Calgary Flames currently have 8 players out with an injury. 5 times last season they went with less than 18 players, went with 15 a couple times. The New Jersey Devils went with 15 on Monday (and should be playing tonight with 16 after the Adam Mair signing). But what if they get a injury later this week? Teams are required to dress 18 skaters and 2 goalies except for ’emergency’ situations. The league may have to ‘plug’ this loophole if this continues with the Devils, and more teams start doing the same.
Scott Burnside via twitter: Burnside wonders what the Devils would do if another player or 2 got hurt? Other GM’s are curious too.
