Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger: The New Jersey Devils will not appeal the $3 million fine and loss of 2 draft picks handed down by the NHL according to Bettman and other officials.
David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Souray said he wouldn’t have been a distraction at the Oilers camp, but it’s too late for that, “I wouldn’t be a distraction … I was planning on coming in, planning on being focused and ready to do whatever to be a professional.”
Larry Brooks via twitter: The Anaheim Ducks are about to sign defenseman Paul Mara to a 1 year deal. Helene Elliot backs up the report, no deal done but a good chance that it happens.
Helene Elliot via twitter: Bobby Ryan could play some center this year. He wasn’t seeking offer sheets this summer.
Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Andy McDonald and David Backes will return to their natural positions, at least to start the season. McDonald will return to center, played LW last year. Backes will be on the right side, was a centerman last year.
George Richards of the Miami Herald: 2010 3rd overall pick, Erik Gudbranson could play up to 9 games with the Florida Panthers this season before they send him back to Kingston of the OHL. If he plays 10 games, it would burn a year of his contract.
James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail: 20 of the 28 players attending the Toronto Maple Leafs rookie camp, will be invited to the main camp. Mirtle lists 47 of the 62 that will most likely be invited, will update the entire list when it’s made available.
