Canucks added a college free agent defenseman

Patrick Johnston: The Vancouver Canucks have signed Josh Teves to a one-year contract and he’ll be joining the team immediately.

GM Jim Benning on Teves: “He’s a smart two-way defenceman; always makes good decisions with the puck. A good passer. He’s a little bit older (24), so physically he’s mature.”

Patrick Johnston: Because of his age Teves could only sign a one-year deal. He’ll be a restricted free agent after this season. He attended the Canucks development camp last offseason.

Senators add a college free agent forward

Ottawa Senators: The Ottawa Senators have signed college free agent forward Max Veronneau to a two-year entry-level deal.

Red Wings add two college free agent left wingers

Ansar Khan: The Detroit Red Wings have signed left winger Ryan Kuffner to a two-year entry-level deal. The 22-year old scored 22 goals and added 22 assists in 31 games for Princeton this season.

Ansar Khan: The Red Wings signed left winger Taro Hirose to a two-year entry-level deal. He led all college scorers with 50 points for Michigan State this season.

Max Bultman: Kuffner and Hirose will finish the season with the Red Wings as GM Ken Holland wants to show them what the NHL is about. Both will need to get stronger to compete for jobs next fall.

Dana Wakiji: Kuffner will be heading to Detroit today and Hirose will arrive Thursday night as he has an exam to write. Both will need to get working visa’s before they are able to play.

Ryan Wagman: “Kudos to the for injecting two good collegians to their system in Ryan Kuffner and Taro Hirose, the latter the leading scorer in college this year. Dynamic offensive talent”
