NHL Trade: Hurricanes Trade Kruger And A Pick To Coyotes For Martinook And A Pick

The Carolina Hurricanes trade Marcus Kruger to the Arizona Coyotes

The Arizona Coyotes have acquired Marcus Kruger and a 2018 third-round pick for Jordan Martinook and a 2018 fourth-round pick.

Arizona Coyotes: Coyotes GM John Chayka.

“We are very pleased to add Marcus to the Coyotes,” said Chayka. “Marcus is a solid, two-way center who is very responsible defensively and has good speed and skill. He’s an excellent penalty-killer and will provide us with good depth at the center ice position.”

Craig Morgan: Kruger has one-year left on his three-year, $9.25 million deal. He won’t two Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks.

Mark Lazerus: “Kruger is (was?) the kind of player who makes a good team great. But he’s not the kind of player who makes a mediocre team good. He has to be a in a specific role, and can’t do much beyond that. That’s why his salary is so egregious.”

Terrell Williams of the Carolina Hurricanes: The Hurricanes are retaining 10 percent of Kruger’s salary.

“Jordan is a physical player who kills penalties,” said Don Waddell, president and acting general manager of the Hurricanes. “This gives us some options with our forward group as we head toward the next season.”
