Could Maple Leafs Target Corey Perry? Perry Trade Tracker Video
Mark Easson
Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: It’s been rumored that the Anaheim Ducks will only be able to keep one of Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, with Getzlaf being the player most likely to get a long-term deal. Perry then could become available before the trade deadline on April 3rd. Cox thinks the Leafs have to be in on Perry if he does come available. He’s not the ideal player for the Maple Leafs as he’s not a center, but he’s a former Hart Trophy winner and Stanley Cup winner. Perry will be looking for a big raise from his $4.875 million salary, possibly heading north of $8 million, and the Leafs could afford that. Since Burke is a now a scout for the Ducks, so he could provide info on every Leafs player and prospect. He would know how Leafs GM Dave Nonis values each player/prospect. Cox wonders if Burke would recommend having Phil Kessel as part of the deal? Would Nonis need to get Perry signed to an extension for a deal to be made? The Ducks could sign both Getzlaf and Perry, but that seems unlikely. They could keep both past the deadline, but that also seems unlikely.
