- Craig Custance of ESPN: Custance notes that Shane Doan and Alexander Semin remain unsigned for different reasons. Doan, because he waiting to see what is happening with the Coyotes situation. Doan doesn’t appear to be a in hurry and is willing to wait and see what happens before signing elsewhere. The Penguins, Kings, Wings, Canucks, Sharks, Rangers and Sabres are all interested, but there isn’t optimism that he’ll actually leave. One GM is 90% sure he’ll stay in Phoenix. One GM when asked why Semin wasn’t signed, ” wants too much money.” Teams may be waiting for Doan before looking at Semin.
- L.A. Lariviere via twitter: Doan’s agent said they’d consider the Canadiens and Penguins, added “Talked to 16 different clubs” Doan’s agent also said they could be setting sights on a new destination within 7 to 10 days.
- Ed Tait via twitter: Tait spoke with Doan’s agent, the Jets have not made an offer for Doan.
- Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: The Canucks have offered Doan a multi-year deal for at least 3 years. Teams aren’t in on Doan if they are only offering 1 or 2 year deals.
- Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: The fact that Doan is still waiting for on the Coyotes, points to them still being the frontrunners. Coyotes GM Don Maloney thinks it “may be weeks” until Doan decides on a team.
“I still remain confident that we will be able to sign Shane,” Maloney said. “Nothing has changed in that respect. We still have regular communication despite everything you see and read.”
