Chris Ryan: New Jersey Devils coach John Hynes said Nico Hischier will travel with the team but they are not sure if he’ll play.

Andrew Gross: New York Islanders forward Matt Martin remains day-to-day and on the IR with an upper-body injury.

Forward Casey Cizikas is out another two to three weeks with a lower-body injury.

Matthews practices but no return date set

Dave McCarthy of NHL.com: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews practiced with a no-contact jersey yesterday. It was his first full practice since injuring his shoulder.

“I don’t know, honestly. Kind of just taking it day by day,” Matthews said. “It feels a lot better. I think it’s progressed quite well. It’s still not all there but hopefully it continues to progress, and I can get out there as soon as possible.”

Head coach Mike Babcock on when Matthews could return.

“He’s got to work and get back in shape,” Babcock said. “He’s been able to skate the whole time, but until he’s every day in here, I don’t know when he’s returning.”

Injured Capitals progressing

Chris Kuc: Washington Capitals coach Todd Reirden said there is “some progression” with T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Both players are with the team and are day-to-day.
