Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post: Defenseman Michael Del Zotto is still listed as day-to-day, and is getting close to returning after skating for the third consecutive day. He’s hoping to return on Wednesday.

“It went a little differently than I thought it would go,” Del Zotto said of his return. “Obviously it was a week and a half or two weeks ago I skated the one day, felt pretty good and the next day was a setback and I wasn’t able to walk again and obviously couldn’t skate.”

On the Buffalo Sabres …

John Vogl: Defenseman Cody Franson is wearing a walking boot after blocking a shot.

“Franson blocked a shot in his foot and more evaluation for today,” coach Dan Bylsma said in KeyBank Center. “He is not going to be playing tomorrow or Sunday.”

Forward Zemgus Girgensons is also out this weekend and is day-to-day.

On the New York Rangers …

Brett Cyrgalis of the NY Post: Defenseman Dan Girardi is “day-to-day” after blocking a shot on the inside of his ankle on Tuesday. It required stitches.

“I’m hoping that it won’t be very long,” Vigneault told reporters after Thursday’s morning skate. “The swelling just has to go down. Should be good in a couple days.”
