Forward Tage Thompson is out three to five weeks with an upper-body injury.

Forward Vladimir Sobotka is out indefinitely after having surgery.

Lance Lysowski: Sabres coach Ralph Krueger on Sobotka requiring surgery: “I never like to bookend an injury of that nature. Let’s work with him and do everything we can and try and get him back. But it’s definitely long-term …”

Ansar Khan: Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard left last night’s game with a “mid-body” injury according to Jeff Blashill. He won’t be available on Friday and they are not sure how long he could be out for. Goaltender Calvin Pickard will be recalled.

Ansar Khan: Red Wings goalie Jonathan Bernier had been scheduled to start but he didn’t due to an illness. He didn’t start the game dressed as the backup but then had to get ready quickly when Howard got injured.

Dana Wakiji: Red Wings defenseman Mike Green said that he hopes to be able to return to the lineup on Friday.

Bruce Garrioch: Ottawa Senators coach D.J. Smith said that goaltender Craig Anderson tweaked something and is out for precautionary reasons. The issue came up after their game in Columbus.

Brent Wallace: Senators coach Smith said that forwards Vladislav Namestnikov and Artem Anisimov could be able to return the weekend.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Forward Steven Stamkos on joining teammates for their morning skate.

“Good to get on the ice. I miss it and it hasn’t been that long. I feel pretty good and hopefully the next two games is the plan.”

NBC Sports: Washington Capitals coach Todd Reirden hopes that forward Nicklas Backstrom will be able to return during their four-game road trip.
