The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenseman Tomas Kaberle to the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Jaroslav Spacek.
Kaberle was signed this offseason by the Hurricanes for 3 years at $12.75 million. Things didn’t work that well in Carolina for him, and he had been rumored to be on the trade block for over a month. He carries a $4.25 million cap for 2 more seasons.
Spacek carries a $3.833 million cap hit, and will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Gus Katsaros via twitter: “Expensive contract aside, the change in scenery could do Kabs some good. Another puck rusher letting Subban be the shot on the PP”
Dennis Bernstein via twitter: “All the Kaberle deal does is jam up cap space Gauthier’s successor would have had off Spacek expiring deal.”
