- Ansar Khan of MLive: Gordie Howe’s son Mark said that his dad’s condition has taken a turn for the worse lately.
“The last 10 days have been difficult. His health is trending in the opposite direction,” Mark told MLive.com on Sunday. “Right now it’s a lot for Dad to handle.”
“We’re hoping and praying,” Mark Howe said. “We just don’t want him to suffer. If we can’t get rid of his back pain it’s going to be extremely difficult rehabbing the way he was 10 days ago.
“It’s a continuing fight. We’re just trying to give Dad the best chance to continue his road to recovery.”
- Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago: Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk will be “out for a while” after suffering a left-leg injury according to coach Joel Quenneville. van Riemsdyk blocked a Trevor Daley shot.
“He got hurt pretty bad,” said Quenneville, who added it was very likely the Blackhawks recall a defenseman from Rockford for their upcoming Circus Trip. “We’ll know more (Monday), but he’s out for a while.”
- Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Flyers Shayne Gostisbehere’s had surgery on only his ACL.
“Sometimes there are other elements involved, but there was nothing else,” Hextall said before Saturday’s game in Montreal. “The information was as good as we could have gotten.”
