The Anaheim Ducks have traded Jiri Sekac to the Chicago Blackhawks for Ryan Garbutt.
The 23-year old Sekac was undrafted. He carries a $925,000 salary cap hit and will be a RFA after this season.
The 30-year old Garbutt was also undrafted. He carries a $900,000 salary cap hit and will be a UFA after next season. The Stars are retaining half of Garbutt’s salary.
Thoughts from the media:
Elliott Teaford: The Ducks are “swapping speed for toughness.”
Mark Lazerus: “#Blackhawks deal grit for skill & cap flexibility, trading Garbutt for Sekac.”
Frank Seravalli: “One interesting thing about Sekac for Garbutt: we rarely see a 23 y/o traded for a 30 y/o anymore – particularly in cap-neutral deal.”
