The potential for this trade is so exciting in Montreal that the anticipation is palpable. The fans of the Canadiens are staunch supporters of players of French-Canadian decent and next to Vincent Lecavalier all others pale in comparison. The talk is heating up and according to sources (Bruce Garrioch, Sun Media) it’s reaching a fever pitch.
It’s not entirely clear what the Lightning would seek in return but at this point the Habs would be hard pressed not to pay whatever the asking price. If you witnessed the applause last night in Montreal for the Canadiens draft choice of French Canadian Louis Leblanc, you’ve seen the passion these people have for one of their own.
As for Lecavalier, this would be an opportunity to play in a market where you are loved if you perform. Considering he’s won the Stanley Cup in Tampa his abilities aren’t the question. The question is can he perform under the pressure of superstar expectations in the birthplace of the NHL.
