- Andy Strickland of True Hockey: Sources in Toronto have the Blues and Maple Leafs on each other’s radar. Nikolai Kulemin’s name keeps coming up. Kulemin may need a change of scenery. He’s taken a defensive/penalty killing role and gets limited power play time. The Maple Leafs could be interested in a younger player which may include Jaden Schwartz and/or Ian Cole. If the Blues were to move Cole, they would need a defenseman in return, and the Leafs have a surplus of them. It would take more than Kulemin if they were to get Schwartz out of St. Louis.
- Randy Sportak via twitter: After not getting Ryan O’Reilly, it might be time for the “much needed and anticipated” changes.
We all know what that means, with the usual highly paid suspects — pending unrestricted free-agent Jarome Iginla, along with Miikka Kiprusoff and Jay Bouwmeester — in the sights as trade fodder to kickstart a much-needed rebuild of the team.
The Flames should be looking for young talent and top picks.
