Maple Leafs Hits: Kadri, Franson and Phaneuf
Mark Easson
Chris Johnston: Maple Leafs VP of Hockey Operations, Dave Poulin, said they don’t expect Nazem Kadri and Cody Franson to be in training camp if they remain unsigned.
David Alter: Poulin said that they made a fair offer to Kadri and that it’s plenty of money for him.
Jonas Siegel: Poulin suggests that the offer they made to Kadri is based on their perceived market value and not the Leafs cap situation.
Rob Longley: Kadri is feeling like some are portraying him unfairly in this situation.
Chris Johnston: Kadri said that he is waiting for the Maple Leafs to make the next move in contract talks.
Darren Dreger: Dreger thinks a two-year deal for Franson makes sense and a that a one-year deal is also a good possibility. He could walk into free with more leverage.
Bob McKenzie: It’s not sounding like the Maple Leafs and RFAs Kadri and Franson are even in the same ballpark with regards to negotiations.
Bob McKenzie: Kadri is thought to be looking for a long-term deal in the John Tavares range, six-years at $5.5 million per. The Leafs are looking for a shorter term deal, in the P.K. Subban area, two-years at $2.875 million per season.
David Alter: Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said that he treats players who are not at training camp because of a holdout as the same as an injured player. You go with what you have.
Rob Longley: Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf on his free agent year: “the contract stuff will take care of itself.”
