Caroline Cameron: Phil Kessel said that he thinks every player looks forward to being a free agent and deciding on where you want to play.
Hockey Central: Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis said that they made an offer to Cody Franson but he declined it. They are prepared to go through camp without him, but would “like to have Cody at camp.”
Chris Johnston: Nonis has made it clear that he will hold the line with Cody Franson during contract talks, the same as he did with Nazem Kadri.
Michael Traikos: Nonis on Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf contract negotiations: “if and when we begin negotiations with those 2 players it will be behind closed doors.”
Chris Johnson: Nonis hinted that they might start contract talks with Kessel’s agent before the season starts.
