- Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy hopes to return by the end of October. He was on the ice Monday before practice, taking shots from in close.
“I’m feeling great, almost ready to go,” Vasilevskiy said. “I can do almost everything I want. Every move.”
The only thing that is holding Vasilevskiy back from playing is that he is on blood thinners. He has a doctors appointment scheduled for Oct. 21st and could be cleared to return to practice then. He may need a few games in the AHL before returning.
- Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post: Nicklas Backstrom’s progress from arthroscopic hip surgery is far enough along that they felt comfortable to release Derek Roy from his tryout. Backstrom will meet with his doctor next week.
“Originally, it was zero to 10 games,” General Manager Brian MacLellan said. “Now, it seems to be four or five games. There’s still uncertainty there, but it looks like he’s progressing well.”
“Nick is progressing very, very well,” Trotz said.
