On waivers …
- Pierre LeBrun: Karri Ramo (CGY), Bobby Sanguinetti (BUF) and Tom Kuhnhackl (PIT) cleared waivers.
- NHL Numbers: Ramo will still have $2.85 million counting against the salary cap. They get $950,000 in cap relief.
On the Canucks …
- Jason Brough: Whether or not Jared McCann can be the Canucks fourth line center could determine if he remains in the NHL or is returned to junior.
On hosting events …
- Frank Seravalli: Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said he’s continuing to push for a 2017 outdoor game on Parliament Hill.
- Lou Korac: The Blues and the St. Louis Sports Commission are trying to secure a bid for the 2017 World Junior Championship.
On the Avalanche …
- Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: The Avalanche assigned 2015 first round pick Mikko Rantanen to the AHL, and recalled Dennis Everberg. Rantanen didn’t record a point in five games and was a minus-five.
“It’s one thing if you’re up here and getting your 15-16 minutes a game,” Sakic said about Rantanen’s limited ice time. “We felt it was a good time for him to go down and play a lot. He needs to play a lot, quality minutes on the power play and penalty killing.”
On the Sharks …
- Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News: Sharks Raffi Torres said he wasn’t thinking when he hit Ducks Jakob Silfverberg, a hit that got him a 41-game suspension.
“I’m disappointed in myself for kind of losing my head for a second there, and it cost me,” Torres said inside the Sharks’ dressing room at SAP Center. “So I’ll try and put it behind me. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it three times a day. … I put a lot of pressure on myself to be better, to be smarter and I made one mistake out there and it cost me.
“I understand that the history didn’t help, either. I feel like they had a job to do. I’ll deal with it.”
