Morning Hits: Weise, Kassian, Clarkson, Waivers, Cliche and the Blackhawks 2nd line center options
Mark Easson
Bob McKenzie: There will be disciplinary hearing today for Canucks Dale Weise and Zack Kassian. Weise’s hearing is over the phone, the NHL requires an in person hearing for Kassian.
David Alter: Maple Leafs David Clarkson would lose $507,692.31 for his automatic 10-game suspension for leaving the bench to get into a fight. James Mirtle: If/when Clarkson is suspended, it will cost the Maple Leafs about another $75,000 against the salary cap to bring in another player. Also, Clarkson’s cap number goes against the cap when suspended: “The salary of a player suspended for an on-ice incident continues to count against a team’s cap.” Chris Johnston: With a 10-game suspension, Clarkson’s first game would be October 25th against the Blue Jackets.
Renaud Lavoie: Put on waivers yesterday: Nicolas Blanchard (Car), Zach Boychuk (Car), Michael Jordan (Car), Aaron Palushaj (Car), Justin Peters (Car), Jared Staal (Car) and Rob Davidson (SJ).
Kevin Allen: The Avalanche claimed Marc-Andre Cliche off waivers from the Kings.
Chicago Blackhawks: Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said that Brandon Saad is still an option as their 2nd line center after playing a game on the left side. Brandon Pirri will play in the second slot today. Mark Lazerus: Quenneville had mentioned Michal Handzus‘ name when asked if there was a new plan for the 2nd line slot. Pirri not in the mix just yet.
