Morning Rumors III: Senators, Bruins, Blues, Oilers, Sharks, Leafs, Canucks and Some Scouting

Amalie Benjamin: Source confirms there have not been discussions between the Senators and Bruins regarding Chris Phillips just yet. The Bruins are interested.

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: There have been lots of rumors about the Bruins interest in Senators Chris Phillips but “there have been no conversations” according to a source. Ryan Spooner has been rumored to be a possible trade chip. Same source said that Spooner won’t be used for a rental. The Bruins have also been linked to Andrew MacDonald, Andrej Meszaros, Tom Gilbert, Nick Schultz, Henrik Tallinder and Christian Ehrhoff.

Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: A source is saying that the Bruins have contracted the Senators about Chris Phillips. A more likely option for the Bruins is Andrej Meszaros. Other targets could be Henrik Tallinder, Ron Hainsey and Andrew MacDonld. The high cost to acquire MacDonald may scare the Bruins off.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Bruins, Blues, Oilers and Sharks are believed to have shown interest in Chris Phillips. The Senators have shown interest in Chris Stewart.

Hope Smoke: Bob McKenzie: “For the right person both Kadri or Gardiner could be traded but I don’t think that kind of player is out there” … “Leafs are looking for a C or a top 4 and I don’t see that player falling into their lap”

Hope Smoke: Darren Dreger: “No secret, the Leafs have been looking to upgrade defensively. Nobody would have expected that at the beginning of the year” … “At times, through stretches, one of their best performers on the blueline has been the rookie Morgan Rielly” … “I’d be a little surprised if the Leafs are able to get that top 4 D by the deadline” … “The Leafs untouchable list would include Phil Kessel but I don’t think there is anyone beyond that” … “Nonis continues to preach that if you make the right offer any player is available” … “Sure it’s possible that Kadri/Gardiner could be moved in a blockbuster. I don’t get the sense that anything like that is happening” … “I don’t see the fit with Van & TO because Gillis is loathe to deal with the Leafs. Nonis, like everyone else, is making that call”
