On the Ottawa Senators …
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Senators GM Pierre Dorion has considered moving up in the draft, and it’s thought that he’s even talked to some teams about the possibility. The Senators are interested in center Logan Brown, and they’d have to move up from their current No. 12 slot if they wanted a shot at drafting him.
It sounds like they have already told Patrick Wiercioch that he won’t be back next season.
The Senators may be trying to trade Alex Chiasson, who they’d have to qualify at $1.2 million. Chiasson did have some interest before the trade deadline.
It’s all quiet with regards to RFA Mike Hoffman. Hoffman is arbitration eligible and can not receive an offer sheet.
It’s believed that the Senators have spoken with RFA Cody Ceci about short- and long-term deals.
Dorion may be okay with the Senators top-six, and they are hoping that Clarke MacArthur will be able to return. Improving their blueline appears to be their top priority.
On the Montreal Canadiens …
Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Darren Dreger on TSN 690 on P.K. Subban and the Montreal Canadiens.
“I’ve talked to a couple of NHL GMs from the Western Conference who have both reached out to Marc Bergervin over the last, I would say, several weeks – I don’t know what the exact timeline is – to inquire about the possibility about Subban being in play, about P.K. Subban being available. Both general managers – not sources here – NHL general managers, said that Marc Bergevin told them both that P.K. Subban was not going to be moved.”
