Darren Dreger: Potential scenario is that teams would protect three defenseman, seven forwards and one goalie … or eight skaters and a goalie.
Darren Dreger: Expansion will be determined before the June draft. If they expand by one team, each team would lose only one player. If they expand by two teams, teams could lose two players.
Darren Dreger: The next step in the expansion process is for the executive committee to make a recommendation – either no expansion, expand by one team, or expand by two teams. Most GMs think they will only expand by one team and to Las Vegas.
Pierre LeBrun: First and second year “pros” would be exempt from the expansion draft – includes NHL and AHL.
Elliotte Friedman: The NHL hasn’t yet decide if players that have no-movement clauses being eligible for the draft. NMC are not expected to be draft eligible.
Pierre LeBrun: GMs say that they have the potential to either a No. 4 or 5 defenseman, or a No. 6 or 7 forward or a goaltender.
Larry Brooks: The NHL and NHLPA must negotiate the terms of an expansion draft. The NHL doesn’t have the power to dictate on their own.
Bob McKenzie: Opinion and not a report … NHL expands to just Las Vegas. If/when Seattle is ready for a NHL team, they will go there.

Jonas Siegel: Senators GM Bryan Murray on the risk of losing a good young player in an expansion draft: “Yeah you could but that’s okay. I’ve got a guy in mind right now.”
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: One executive last week on the expansion draft and no-movement clauses.
“What do you think about the expansion draft?” I asked one last week.
“I think,” he said, “We’re going to find out how much the NHL hates no-move clauses. They are going to $#%& us.”
Article 11.8 Section (c) of the CBA on NMC – “A no-move clause may prevent the involuntary relocation of a Player, whether by Trade, Loan or Waiver claim.”
