Top 15 2019 restricted free agents
Luke Fox of Sportsnet: Looking at the top 15 2019 restricted free agents.
1 Brayden Point – Tampa Bay Lightning – A top priority for GM Julien BriseBois. He could do a two-year bridge deal, a five-year contract like Auston Matthews to an eight-year deal.
2. Mitch Marner – Toronto Maple Leafs – Leafs leading scorer in each of ther past two seasons. The Leafs cap situation is well documented. Top priority for GM Kyle Dubas.
3. Sebastian Aho – Carolina Hurricanes – Owner Tom Dundon has assured Aho will be re-signed. He could ask for Jack Eichel money – eight-years and $80 million.
4. Mikko Rantanen – Colorado Avalanche – Salary cap space won’t be an issue for the Avalanche.
5. Matthew Tkachuk – Calgary Flames – Will become the Flames highest paid player. Auston Matthews five-year deal changed the approach of pending RFAs.
6. Timo Meier – San Jose Sharks – Career-high 30 goals and 66 points. Meier could use William Nylander‘s contract as a comparable and look for around $7.25 million per.
7. Brock Boeser – Vancouver Canucks – Contract talks have already started. Could end up in the $7.3 million range.
8. Charlie McAvoy – Boston Bruins – Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reported in February that McAvoy turned down an extension offer of eight years at around $7.5 million.
9. Jacob Trouba – Winnipeg Jets – He’s a year away from being a UFA and is arbitration eligible. Trouba had been looking for around $7 million last year before arbitration.
10. Kyle Connor – Winnipeg Jets – Back-to-back 30 goal scorer. The Jets have 15 pending free agents to decide on.
11. Patrik Laine – Winnipeg Jets – May opt for a bridge deal and hope for a better season.
12. William Karlsson – Vegas Golden Knights – Went from 43 to 24 goals after taking a one-year, $5.25 million deal last offseason. George McPhee said they’ll work on a long-term deal.
13. Jordan Binnington – St. Louis Blues – The Blues don’t have a lot of cap space. Will they have to pay him more than Jake Allen‘s $4.35 million?
14. Zach Werenski – Columbus Blue Jackets – Logs almost 23 minutes a game.
15. David Rittich – Calgary Flames – Could be the Flames No. 1 goaltender next season.
