Todd Walsh: Goaltender Mike Smith returned to Phoenix to get another opinion on his lower-body injury. He’s still day-to-day.

Sarah McLellan: Coach Dave Tippett said they’ve received some test results on Smith, but they don’t have a diagnosis on what the issue is just yet. They want to have him looked at by their doctors.

Sarah McLellan: The Coyotes are saying he’s day-to-day. Not known if he’ll remain in Arizona for the remainder of their road trip.

On the New York Islanders …

Arthur Staple: Defenseman Nick Leddy is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Should know more about his status today.

On the St. Louis Blues …

Jeremy Rutherford: Jaden Schwartz and Kyle Brodziak both returned to the Blues lineup last night. Defenseman Carl Gunnarsson missed last night’s game, but is getting close to returning to the lineup.

On the Chicago Blackhawks …

Mark Lazerus: Marian Hossa won’t play tonight, but is a possibility for Saturday.

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

Aaron Portzline: Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo skated yesterday for the first time since his preseason groin injury. He didn’t take any shots.

Aaron Portzline: Guessing that a timetable for Korpisalo would be to return in a week to a week and a half.

Aaron Portzline: Aside from a last minute change, Blue Jackets plan is to have Curtis McElhinney to backup Sergei Bobrovsky for their four game road trip.

Ken Warren: Clarke MacArthur skated yesterday, but coach Guy Boucher said there is still a “long process” ahead.

On the Dallas Stars …

Mike Heika: Coach Lindy Ruff said that Patrick Sharp will be out awhile with concussion-like symptoms. The Stars will know more about Patrick Eaves today.

Mike Heika: Ales Hemsky (groin) is a possibility for Saturday. Jiri Hudler (illness) won’t be able to go. The Stars will likely call someone up.

SportsCentre: Defenseman Zach Redmond will be out six weeks with a broken foot. The break happened at practice.

Kristen Shilton: Defenseman Martin Marincin missed last night’s game with a lower-body injury.

On the Washington Capitals …

J.J. Regan of CSN Mid Atlantic: Forward Daniel Winnik blocked a shot off his head last night and lost part of his ear according to coach Barry Trotz.

“Trainers looked at him, he was just fine, he’s missing a piece of his ear.”

Trotz followed that by saying, “It’s just a small piece.”
