On the Chicago Blackhawks …

Frank Seravalli: The Blackhawks put Andrew Desjardins on the IR.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Montreal Canadiens: Coach Michel Therrien said that Jeff Petry will miss their first game of the season due to injury.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Sam Werner adn Elizabeth Bloom of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Penguins Sidney Crosby was diagnosed with a concussion yesterday. It is Crosby’s third concussion and it’s not known who long he’s expected to be out for.

The concussion occurred during their second practice session on Friday. No details of how it happened have been released.

“Our medical staff follows strict guidelines, and there’s a certain protocol and that’s how our team operates,” Sullivan said. “We always have our players’ best interests and health is the priority. Regardless of who the player is, that’s how we feel and we’ve always felt that way, so this one will be no different.”

On the St. Louis Blues …

Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues goalie Jake Allen will test his injury leg today at practice and they are hopeful that he’ll be able to go on Wednesday for their season opener.

“He’s going to skate tomorrow with the trainers and if he feels fine he’s going to join us for the practice,” Hitchcock said. “Good news and we’ll hopefully see him out with us right away.

“He’ll first do a maneuver skate and then hopefully join us at 10:30 if everything goes well there. … If everything just goes well, he’s going to play Wednesday. That’s kinda what we’re assuming. So it doesn’t have to go really well, it just has to go well. He’s doing fine.”

Allen was injured on Saturday when teammate Carl Gannarsson fell on his leg.

On the Dallas Stars …

Mike Heika of the Dallas Stars: Tyler Seguin is back practicing after he suffered a hairline fracture of his heel on September 9th, and is expected to play on Thursday in their season opener. Seguin wasn’t able to play in any preseason games.

Ales Hemsky suffered a groin injury during the World Cup of Hockey and he’s not ready to go just yet.

“I don’t believe Hemsky will be able to play,” Ruff said. “He’s had treatment. I would look to see him get on the ice , not for practice, but back on the ice and we’ll just wait and see.”

On the New Jersey Devils …

Andrew Gross of North Jersey.com: The Devils have put Luke Gazdic (broken foot) and Jon Merrill (broken finger) on the IR. Kyle Quincey returned to practice after being out with a lower-body injury.
