Chris Pinkert of NHL.com: St. Louis Blue goaltender Jake Allen will be out for 10 to 14 days with back spasms.

The Blues will also be without Erik Foley who suffered a concussion at a prospect tournament.

Goaltender Luke Opilka is also out after having hip surgery.

Injured Ducks

Elliott Teaford: Injured Anaheim Ducks for the start of training camp include Ryan Kesler (hip), Patrick Eaves (shoulder), and Max Jones (thumb).

Ducks GM Bob Murray said that they expect Eaves to skate at the start of training camp, but he won’t take contact right away. They are hopeful that he can play in one of their final preseason games.

Couturier hopeful to get into a preseason game or two

Adam Kimelman of NHL.com: Philadelphia Flyers forward Sean Couturier suffered a lower-body injury at the start of August in a charity hockey game. He was back on the ice on Monday and they are hopeful he can be ready for a preseason game or two.

“I’d like to a play a few games, at least one or two, just to get back into game action before the season,” Couturier said. “I’m just going by what they’re telling me. They’re holding me back a little bit. I feel great. We’re being cautious, take it one day at a time, making sure it’s completely healed.”

It was expected that he’d be out for four to six weeks from the August 10th date. An MRI showed a knee injury, but one that was different from the torn MCL he suffered in the playoffs.

Gaborik’s season in doubt

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Marian Gaborik won’t be at the start of the Ottawa Senators training camp and he may not play at all this season.

Gaborik had back surgery last spring and hasn’t been given clearance.

“Gaborik has not been fully cleared health-wise,” Dorion told this newspaper during a meeting Wednesday. “He’s still in L.A. seeing a back specialist. Once he gets here, we’ll have more information. Right now, I can’t tell you more than that.”

Gaborik has three years left on his deal at $4.875 million salary cap hit. Insurance covers 80 percent of his salary.
