NHL Injury Updates
Craig Morgan: Arizona Coyotes forward Phil Kessel was getting checked out after taking a shot to the ankle. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper was feeling sick after the game. Their status won’t be known until today.
Joe Haggerty: Boston Bruins defenseman John Moore thought that he initially re-injured his shoulder in a fight with Zack Smith. Doctors checked him out after the fight and he eventually returned to the game.
Charlie Roumeliotis: Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Olli Maatta missed last night’s game with flu-like symptoms.
Mike Chambers: Colorado Avalanche forwards Gabriel Landeskog and Andre Burakovsky returned to the lineup last night but forward Nazem Kadri was out with a lower-body injury.
Reid Wilkins: Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins said that his hand is feeling better but he’s not sure when he’ll be back playing.
Jameson Olive: Florida Panthers coach Joel Quenneville on forward Jayce Hawryluk: “He’s getting closer to getting contact and getting inserted into practice. He’s not far away.”
Reid Wilkins: Oilers forward Zack Kassian said that he’ll “for sure” return to the lineup tonight or on Sunday.
Renaud Lavoie: Montreal Canadiens forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi left last night’s game early with an upper-body injury.
Mike Morreale: New Jersey Devils coach Alain Nasreddine on forward Jack Hughes: “He looked good (in practice). He’s a possibility for FRI. I’ve been in 1on1 meetings so haven’t really looked into the possibility of Jack playing tomorrow, so that’s something we’ll have to discuss in the next couple of hrs”
Pittsburgh Penguins: Coach Mike Sullivan yesterday on defenseman Jack Johnson: “Jack is just recovering from his illness. He does feel much better. Having said that, he hasn’t had a lot of food in him over the past 24 hours.”
Pittsburgh Penguins: Sullivan said that defenseman Kris Letang was given a maintenance day yesterday.
Dan Kingerski: Penguins forward Bryan Rust and defenseman Justin Schultz practiced yesterday and are game-time decisions tonight.
Seth Rorabaugh: Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist is wearing a knee brace.
Paul Friesen: Winnipeg Jets defenseman Luca Sbisa on being kicked by a skate to his ‘nether region’ during their last game: “The pain scale? It’s gotta be way up there, yeah. Put it this way: I would rather take a one-timer off my bare foot than do that again.”
