NHL Injury Updates
Aaron Vickers: The Calgary Flames have recalled forward Austin Czarnik from his AHL conditioning stint but he’s still on the LTIR.
Kristen Anderson: Flames forward Sam Bennett (shoulder) was back skating with the team at practice.
Charlie Roumeliotis: The Chicago Blackhawks have put defenseman Calvin de Haan on the IR with a right shoulder injury retroactive to December 10th.
Mike Chambers: Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said that defenseman Cale Makar won’t play tonight. Goaltender Philip Grubauer could return and may even start.
Helene St. James: Detroit Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou were on the ice yesterday for practice. It was the first time Mantha skated with the team since he suffered his injury.
- Dana Wakiji: Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said that Mantha is getting close and has skate better lately. Can’t say if he’ll be ready for the weekend.
Helene St. James: Red Wings coach Blashill said that defenseman Danny DeKeyser is skating with less pain and able to last longer. He’s not ready to return but he is progressing.
Montreal Canadiens: Forward Matthew Peca will be out for about six weeks with a knee injury.
Andrew Gross: New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy is progressing but missed his second consecutive game last night.
Seth Rorabaugh: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin missed last night’s game with an illness.
Joe Smith: Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper said that forward Tyler Johnson will be out for the next two games.
Rick Dhaliwal: Vancouver Canucks forward Micheal Ferland is not in concussion protocol but saw a specialist yesterday about the side effects of a possible concussion.
Iain MacIntyre: Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko is in concussion protocol after suffering a concussion in Thursday’s practice.
Forward Brandon Sutter is still day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Green on Ferland:
“He’s seeing specialists,” Green said of Ferland. “Health is, for us, the No. 1 priority for Ferly. He’s not in the (concussion) protocol. He’s got some symptoms that he doesn’t feel perfect, and he’s still seeing some specialists to find out exactly what’s going on. It’s symptoms, but he hasn’t suffered a concussion.”
Justin Emerson: Vegas Golden Knights forward Cody Glass isn’t traveling with the team on their road trip.
Ken Wiebe: Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice said that Bryan Little needs a little more time to heal before they make a decision whether he needs a surgical procedure.
