Pierre LeBrun: Source is saying that the Flames called the Hurricanes yesterday and asked for permission to speak with head coach Bill Peters. The Hurricanes had no issue. Peters opted out of contract with the Hurricanes today.
Darren Dreger: Though not done yet, all indications are that Peters will be the head coach of the Calgary Flames.
Shawn Simpson: Peters is walking away from a $1.6 million salary with the Hurricanes, so he must be headed to the Flames. “Doesn’t feel like a great hire or difference maker. Carolina will soon be added to the NHL’s top circus acts. But does anyone really care?”
