NHL News: Peters Opts Out, Avs, Wild, Flyers, Penguins, Lightning, Capitals and Jets

Bill Peters opts out of contract with the Carolina Hurricanes and signs point to him going the Calgary Flames.

 

On Bill Peters …

Pierre LeBrun: Source is saying that the Flames called the Hurricanes yesterday and asked for permission to speak with head coach Bill Peters. The Hurricanes had no issue. Peters opted out of contract with the Hurricanes today.

Darren Dreger: Though not done yet, all indications are that Peters will be the head coach of the Calgary Flames.

Shawn Simpson: Peters is walking away from a $1.6 million salary with the Hurricanes, so he must be headed to the Flames. “Doesn’t feel like a great hire or difference maker. Carolina will soon be added to the NHL’s top circus acts. But does anyone really care?”

BSN Avalanche: Defenseman Sam Girard practice in a regular jersey this morning – a good sign that he could play tonight.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Luke Fox: Forward Eric Staal had a CT scan and there was nothing serious. His neck is still bruised, swollen and painful from the cross-check he took from Josh Morrissey.

On the Philadelphia Flyers …

Dave Isaac: Forward Sean Couturier said that he’ll take the warmups.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Pittsburgh Penguins: Coach Mike Sullivan on Patric Hornqvist: “He will not play tonight.”

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: Forward Ryan Callahan took part in their full practice today and is getting close to returning.

Joe Smith: Callahan will be a game-time decision for Game 5.

On the Washington Capitals …

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Coach Barry Trotz said that forward Andre Burakovsky requires minor surgery and will be out for the remainder of the series.

Luke Fox: Goaltender Steve Mason left practice early with what looked like a lower-body injury.

Ken Wiebe: Coach Paul Maurice said he wasn’t sure if Mason would be able to backup tonight.

Scott Billeck: Defenseman Toby Enstrom was on the ice skate for the first time since his injury.
