John Vogl of the Buffalo News: Defenseman Marco Scandella played over 21 minutes in their season opener and was able to practice on Friday. He had regular maintenance days during camp and didn’t play in a preseason game.

“It’s a great sign,” the defenseman said in KeyBank Center. “We waited until I was 100 percent ready to play, so we didn’t take any chances. I was very comfortable jumping into the game and battling. I didn’t even think about my hip.”

Defenseman Zach Bogosian is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Gregg Krupa: Defenseman Niklas Kronwall is traveling with the team but is unlikely to play. Coach Jeff Blashill said that Kronwall is day-to-day and not playing.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jason Mackey: GM Jim Rutherford on forward Patric Hornqvist: “He’ll be back soon.”

On the Ottawa Senators …

Brent Wallace: Coach Guy Boucher didn’t offer much of an update on defenseman Johnny Oduya. Only said that it was a lower-body injury and that they may have to call someone up.

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Arpon Basu: Defenseman David Schlemko took part in his first full practice with the Canadiens and was paired with Joe Morrow.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Jonas Siegel: Coach Mike Babcock confirms that Dominic Moore and Calle Rosen will replace Anders Borgman and Eric Fehr in the lineup tonight.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Dan Mizutani: Coach Bruce Boudreau expects Mikael Granlund to be available today. He was given a maintenance day yesterday.

Michael Russo: Granlund wasn’t at practice yesterday. He was limping around after their first game and he entered training camp with an ankle issue.

On the Chicago Blackhawks …

Chris Hine: Coach Joel Quenneville said that Tanner Kero is questionable for tonight and that Tommy Wingels will center the fourth line if Kero is not available.

On the Vancouver Canucks …

Rick Dhaliwal: Trevor Linden on Brendan Gaunce: “Should be cleared for contact next week. He will need some games in Utica. He could join us November 1st.”
