Chris Johnston: The Hurricanes have signed Tim Gleason to a one-year deal worth $1.2 million. He’ll also be collecting $833,333 from the Maple Leafs from his buyout.
Elliotte Friedman: Radim Vrbata will get a $4 million salary and a $1 million bonus in each of the next two seasons. He gets a limited no-trade clause. Renaud Lavoie: Vrbata’s can name eight teams in which he can be traded too as part of his no-trade clause.
Mike Heika: Vern Fiddler will get $1 million this year and $1.5 million in 2015-16 from the Stars.
Chris Johnston: The Leafs have signed Finnish center Petri Kontiola to a one-year deal. Dobber Hockey: Kontiola led Chelyabinsk of the KHL in scoring last year over Andrei Kostitsyn and Evgeny Kuznetsov.
James Mirtle: Talk has it the Islanders were turned down by a lot of other free agents. They are another team that has to overpay to get players to there.
Corey Masisak: The Islanders could be a veteran defenseman to two (or two of they their young defensemen showing they are legit NHLers) from being a top three or four team in the Metro division.
Tom Gulitti: The Islanders weakness after making the playoffs in 2012-13 was their defense and goaltending. They hope Jaroslav Halak is the answer in net, but they still are weak on the blueline.
Chuck Gormley: Capitals Tom Wilson rolled his ankle in a fall. It is not season-threatening. They will no know more in the next day or two.
