Carrick was not put on waivers by the Maple Leafs
Update … The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman Connor Carrick to the Dallas Stars for a conditional 2019 seventh-round draft pick. If Carrick plays in 50 NHL games this season, the pick will become a 2019 sixth-round pick.
Chris Johnston: The Toronto Maple Leafs didn’t end up putting Connor Carrick on waivers which was reported earlier by the Maple Leafs.
This could mean that there is a trade in the works or that someone could be hurt.
The Maple Leafs had been shopping the 24-year old right-handed defenseman this past weekend.
Ducks claim Aberg
Elliotte Friedman: The Anaheim Ducks have claimed forward Pontus Aberg from the Edmonton Oilers.
Canadiens name a captain and offer a contract to a defenseman
Stu Cowan: The Montreal Canadiens have named defenseman Shea Weber their team captain. Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher named assistants.
Arpon Basu: The Canadiens have offered Simon Despres an AHL contract. He hasn’t signed it yet.

Scott Hartnell: After 1,249 NHL games over 17 seasons, officially retiring from the NHL.
Rich Evans: After playing over a 1,000 games for seven teams, forward Radim Vrbata announced his retirement.
Blues acquire a defenseman
