NHL Power Rankings: 2016-17 Consensus Week 23

NHL Power Rankings

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington tied for first in our consensus NHL power rankings for this week.

The Chicago Blackhawks were only a point back of making it a three way tie up top.

The Minnesota Wild were close as well, only three points back and came in at No. 4.

The Columbus Blue Jackets round out the top five.

Not surprising that the Colorado Avalanche sit at No. 30, but several media outlets have different teams at the bottom of their rankings.

The Arizona Coyotes are at No. 29 but made some movement and weren’t a lock in the bottom two as they have been in the past.

The New Jersey Devils continue to fall and sit at No. 28.

The Detroit Red Wings playoff streak will come to end this year, and they are sitting at No. 27.

The Vancouver Canucks round out the top five.

** We used eight sources this week so we were able to drop the highest and lowest ranking from each team, then used six rankings to come up with our consensus.

** Money Pucks Rankings – Each team’s power ranking is based on their probability of beating an average NHL team. MoneyPuck’s win probability model is used to calculate these scores. Factors that go into the Power Score are also shown. Each factor is weighted to give more recent games more importance. Read more about how the rankings are calculated here.

To get our consensus NHL Power Rankings Week 23 point total, we awarded the top team 30 points, the second team 29 points, third team 28 points, etc.

** Keep in mind the dates the rankings were posted, and in some cases, they may have been submitted to their editors the day before it was posted. Different outlets use different factors in determining their rankings. **
