The Canucks haven’t asked Edler to waive his no-trade clause
Brendan Batchelor: Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler confirms that he hasn’t been approached by the team to waive his no-trade clause.
Jason Brough of The Athletic: Edler said last week that he wants to remain with the Canucks, but knows he has to wait to see what happens.
Edler on if he’d waive his no-trade clause if he was asked.
“Right now, I’m just focused on training camp and trying to play as well as I can,” he said. “I will deal with that when it comes up.”
Edler will be 33-years old next April. If he’s open to at the deadline, there should be interested in him in a second pairing role.
The Winnipeg Jets may be one team that would have interest him.
Gardiner wants to stay
Terry Koshan: Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner is entering the final year of his deal: “Hopefully I stay in Toronto. But it’s out of my control right now and just kind of wait and see what happens.”
Tkachyov getting NHL interest
Aivis Kalnins: Vladimir Tkachyov (1993 born) has received some interest from the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Vegas Golden Knights, Calgary Flames, and Washington Capitals. Tkachyov would be a free agent after the KHL season.
Ducks and Ritchie not close
Eric Stephens of The Athletic: Nick Ritchie‘s agent said that they are “still working” on a new contract for the restricted free agent.
Though there has been plenty of talks, Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray said: “but it’s not close.”
Murray has a history of holding firm on his position – see Rickard Rakell and Hampus Lindholm.
“We’ve been given so few things in this CBA when it comes to negotiating contracts,” Murray said, touching on a philosophy he’s held. “That the fourth year for most entry-level players – because some are only two (year deals) – but the fourth year in most normal players, we still have some rights. This organization is still going to use those rights. What other people do, I really could care less.”
