NHL Rumors: Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs

James van Riemsdyk of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Cam Fowler of the Anaheim Ducks
On the Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs …

Luke Fox of Sportsnet: The Anaheim Ducks want to give it a shot this year, but are tight against the cap. Teams are looking at the Ducks and their young blueline. Something could happen after the season, or maybe sooner.

The Toronto Maple Leafs could use a young blueliner, and have some young offensive players that could be of interest. The Leafs don’t have room to keep all of these young forwards long-term.

Would the Ducks be interested in someone like James van Riemsdyk or Tyler Bozak? The Ducks would likely prefer a young prospect(s) and draft picks.

Aside from Jacob Silfverberg, who might have to be exposed for the expansion draft, and Rickard Rakell, the Ducks lack young, potential top-six skilled forwards.

Both teams would be dealing from their position of strength.

On the Anaheim Ducks and Cam Fowler …

Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger was on TSN 690 talking about the Anaheim Ducks and if they’d trade defenseman Cam Fowler.

Dreger notes that you can “never say never,” but hasn’t heard Fowler being connected to another team since the start of the season when they were trying to re-sign Hampus Lindholm.

“Look, the word that I kept getting from management in Anaheim is that, ‘No, we’re not in any rush. We’re going to sit tight here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got and how our season goes. If something makes sense with one of these guys, then we’ll consider it.’

“Fowler was always the name that we in the media gravitated to. He made the most sense as a player who could likely be in play. But I can’t imagine he is now, and if he is, it’s only because some team through sheer desperation is going to, I would say, significantly overpay to get him.

“But that’s pretty much gone quiet, I would say, over the past couple of months.”
