NHL Rumors: Ducks, Golden Knights and Capitals

Will the Washington Capitals be able to re-sign UFA Justin Williams

Catching up on some rumors from the past few days …

On the Anaheim Ducks …

Pierre LeBrun: Contract extension talks between the Anaheim Ducks and Cam Fowler are expected to resume this week. Contract talks have been positive so far this season.

Pierre LeBrun: A deal can’t officially be signed until July 1st, but signs are pointing to a deal getting done.

Pierre LeBrun: If they are to reach an agreement soon, it could definitely impact their expansion draft plans.

Eric Stephens: Free agent Patrick Eaves said he really liked the fit with the Ducks. Sounding like he’d like a multi-year deal and that his free agent decision will be a family one.

On the Vegas Golden Knights …

Steve Carp: Golden Knights GM George McPhee said that “Time will tell” with regards to European free agents Evgeni Dadonov and Stephane Da Costa potentially becoming Golden Knights.

On the Washington Capitals …

CSN Mid Atlantic: Jill Sorenson, JJ Regan and Tarik El-Bashir looking at if the Capitals should re-sign free agent winger Justin Williams.

Sorenson: Williams is coming off a two-year deal at $3.5 million per. There may be a team that is willing to pay him close to that. He may have to take a large pay cut if he wants to return to Washington.

Regan: Williams is the type of player you want in the playoffs, but fitting his salary in won’t be easy for the Capitals. They probably don’t have enough room to fit him in. If they sign their RFAs and if they can sign UFA T.J. Oshie, there is no money for Williams. If they don’t re-sign Oshie, they should call Williams and see how low he’d go.

El-Bashir: Think the Caps will make an attempt to keep him, but he may get a longer deal for money from someone else. They will likely part ways.
