NHL Rumors: Anaheim Ducks, and the Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina Hurricanes Micheal Ferland generating lots of interest.
The Anaheim Ducks hope to be able to keep Jakob Silfverberg

TSN: Pierre LeBrun says the Anaheim Ducks would like to keep pending UFA forward Jakob Silfverberg.

“Here’s the thing: signing Silfverberg will come down to money. If he wants too much and he’s not within the budget of the Ducks, they will ship him regardless of where I think they sit in the standings. The Ducks can’t afford to have that kind of player walk out the door on July 1 and get nothing in return for him.”

Anaheim Ducks: Ducks GM Bob Murray said they are trying to get younger and to find more creative players. On trade talks.

“I’ve been talking for a long time. I’m trying to create. Definitely, every day, we’re trying to get better. It’s difficult, but some things all of a sudden can happen. I don’t know when they will, but my whole focus right now is on players. We’ve got to get better.”

Murray says they will take another run at trying to re-sign Silfverberg.

“You take another crack at signing him. We’re going to do that right now, and we’ll see where that goes. Silvy knows exactly where I’m at. He’s a good hockey player. He’s one of those ones right now standing up and being counted. I have to take a shot and it. We’ll see where we go.”

Micheal Ferland generating a lot of interest

TSN: Darren Dreger said that Carolina Hurricanes would like to keep forward Micheal Ferland. There is the belief among teams that he could be available and he’s generating lots of interest.

“The Hurricanes need to figure out exactly how much he’s going to command in order to have him stay out of that UFA market.”

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL Network and said that it’s more than likely that Micheal Ferland gets traded. The Hurricanes are back in the playoff race though but he’s generating a lot of interest around the league.

“Now, from what I’ve heard about the Hurricanes and Ferland, they were not close in negotiations, just not really on the same page. I think he gets dealt and guys, I think there’s a ton of interest in him. I think Edmonton would be one of those teams. I think Pittsburgh would be one of those teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vancouver, for example, is one of those teams, though I wonder if they wait until the offseason when he’s a free agent.
