On the Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks and St. Louis Blues …
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff continues to tell teams that call him about RFA defenseman Jacob Trouba that if he doesn’t get exactly what he wants in return, he won’t be moving him. He wants a player in the same age bracket and of similar skill.
“Why would anybody want to do something like that?” a league executive asked Insider Trading on Saturday afternoon.
The Jets have talked to the Sabres, Red Wings, Bruins and Coyotes.
“(Cheveldayoff) doesn’t have the pressure of ownership saying, ‘We’ve gotta get a player’. The ownership in Winnipeg is solidly behind him, the city is behind him and if you look at their track record they’ve made (players) wait before,” said another league-insider.”
Teams have already started talking about moving goaltenders with the expansion draft set for June. Talks started at the draft and will heat up by the trade deadline.
The Flames tried to trade Dennis Wideman this offseason. If they were able to move him, they likely would have brought Kris Russell back.
With only $300,000 in salary cap space, someone might be tempted to sign Hampus Lindholm to an offer sheet. Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray would be forced to match. Lindholm might be looking over $6 million and there might be teams willing to give it to him if the Ducks don’t. Teams are targeting Cam Fowler, but the Ducks may prefer to move Kevin Bieksa. Bieksa has a no-movement clause and he’d have to be protected for the expansion draft. Clayton Stoner and his $3.25 million contract is another option for the Ducks.
Teams may try to entice the Blues with a forward when calling about defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk.
On the Columbus Blues Jackets …
Aaron Portzline: Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said that he had tried to trade center Gregory Campbell before he was placed on waivers. He’ll continue to look for a trade partner.
Aaron Portzline: The Blue Jackets suspended Campbell for not reporting to their AHL team.
