Unhappy with ice-time earlier in the season, Andrei Svechnikov okayed the idea of a trade if the Carolina Hurricanes wanted to move him
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman said teams had called the Carolina Hurricanes about forward Andrei Svechnikov, who at one point this season told the Hurricanes he’d be open to trade. Svechnikov wasn’t happy with his ice time.

Ron Maclean: “One of the things you and Kyle talked about on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, latest installment, is how players don’t have to wait around forever if they’re not happy with ice time. So you can listen to the podcast for that story. (Andrei) Svechnikov’s not a kid, but he was unhappy.
Friedman: “Yes, earlier on the season. So Andrei Svechnikov, great player, great player for the Carolina Hurricanes. If you, if you’re a fan of the team, or you were watching around the league, you know he went the first eight games at a point. His usage was down. He was on the fourth line. He had a game where he was down around, just under 12 minutes, and he was unhappy.
And he, I understand, and how else, I haven’t spoken to him directly, but I understand that the inference was made to the Carolina Hurricanes that if they wanted to trade him, he wouldn’t be upset about it. That he would be open to the idea.
Now I think this got out, and that’s kind of how I heard about it today. I think this got out. I heard there were some teams that called the Hurricanes, and they were told, you know, we still consider this a cornerstone player, and this is not something we want to do, but if you’re going to ask us, you’re going to have to make a monster offer.
Now things have cooled down, Ron. He’s back on the first line. He’s playing with Aho and Jarvis, and who wouldn’t want to play with Aho and Jarvis, and his minutes are back up, and he’s got 12 points in his last 13 games. So everything has calmed down for now, his usage is back up there. I think the only thing you look at here and say, hey, if it ever regresses to where it was before then it’s something we have to keep an eye out for.

And I mean, when I heard that today, I was blown away. I mean, who wouldn’t be interested?
Maclean: “Well, Rod Brind’Amour is amazing. They had (Mikko) Rantenan. They had (Martin) Necas. They survived losing both. So they have that ability in Carolina.
