On the Arizona Coyotes …

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: Sources have confirmed that Shane Doan will be back with Coyotes next season.

Source saying the deal will have a $2.5 million base salary with a deferred signing bonus and incentives that could reach $5 million.

Craig Morgan of Arizona Sports: RFA Tobias Rieder received a qualifying offer from the Coyotes two weeks ago, but he has not accepted the offer.

“You have a whole new group there now so maybe it’s going to take some time but we’re not even close to where we need to be,” he said of talks with the Coyotes’ restructured hockey operations department. “I’m not sure how things are structured with Arizona, what it’s going to take to get a deal or who’s giving permission, but they seem to be saying they’ll hold tight on their current offer.”

There is an offer that is above the qualifying offer, and they are open to both short-term and long-term, but they are not close to a deal.

Rieder’s agent Darren Ferris thinks that Nazem Kadri a fair comparable – Kadri signed a long-term deal with a $4.5 million cap hit. Ferris also noted Jamie McGinn‘s three year, $10 million deal.

“I know the talks has been characterized as hitting a snag, but they’re in the exact same spot they have been for a while now,” Coyotes GM John Chayka said Monday. “Obviously, he’d prefer to play under different terms and we’re not trying to take advantage of the fact that he’s a restricted free agent without arbitration eligibility, but you make the fairest offer you think you can based off comparables and other factors.”

Ferris also added that they’ve looked at other options in Europe and the KHL.

“Right now, I’m working with KHL and European teams that are interested and I know can get him more money,” Ferris said. “It’s an option but it’s not one we’ve decided on.”

Rieder has until December 1st to sign a deal with the Coyotes or he would become ineligible to play in the NHL this year.

The Coyotes are trying to avoid arbitration hearings with Michael Stone and Connor Murphy. GM John Chayka said talks with Murphy’s camp have been very good.

The Coyotes are still looking to add an assistant GM.

Chayka added that they are still looking to make trades and are “very active on that front.”
