The New York Rangers will be sitting Artemi Panarin until they can work out a trade
Mollie Walker: The New York Rangers held Artemi Panarin out of the lineup last night for roster management purposes, and he’s not expected to play in any games for the Rangers before the Olympic roster freeze.
Vince Z. Mercogliano: There is no Panarin trade at the moment, but things are heading in that direction.
Arthur Staple: Panarin signing an extension with the acquiring team would be best for the Rangers to maximize the trade value, and it appears to be what Panarin would like as well.

Had initially thought that most of the offers would be from teams looking at him as a rental, which is why had the Dallas Stars as one of the favorites last week.
The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings are legit destinations. Not sure about the Washington Capitals. The Sharks and Kings are able to send the Rangers a younger, potential top-six center in return.
As of last night, didn’t get the sense that anything was imminent.
Sheng Peng of SJ Hockey Now: The Sharks have spoken with the Rangers about Artemi Panarin, and he appears willing to sign an extension with San Jose.
Chris Johnston reported that a contract extension would get Panarin to waive his no-movement clause.
This doesn’t mean that a trade and extension with the Sharks is close (as of late last night). The Sharks sit in the wild card spot and have won 14 of their last 22 games. They made the surprising acquisition of Kiefer Sherwood last week.

Jimmy Murphy: The Rangers have already made a trade with the rival New York Islanders. What about a trade with the New Jersey Devils? If Panarin was okay with just being a rental, what about approving a trade to the Devils? He wouldn’t have to move, even temporarily, to play with New Jersey.
