Panarin sets a deadline for the Blue Jackets …
Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: Columbus Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen didn’t have a contract offer in hand when he met Artemi Panarin where they met in France.
Panarin told Kekalainen, and his agent confirmed today, that Panarin wants all business to be pushed aside when training camp opens on September 13th.
“Artemi loves hockey,” his agent, Daniel Milstein said. “He hates the business side of hockey.
“When the season starts, the focus can only be on playing. He’s going to play his best and give his best to the hockey club.”
He’s currently not willing to talk about a contract extension, so the deadline may not really mean anything anyways.
The Blue Jackets would obviously get the most trade value for Panarin if it came with a contract extension.
If the Blue Jackets were to trade Panarin with an extension in place, word around the league is that it could involve roster player(s) of quality, without an extension would have to be more of the future assets.
Sources are saying that they have received “legitimate” trade offers but all involved futures.
Winnipeg Jets have four arbitration hearing dates …
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: The Jets and Jacob Trouba‘s arbitration hearing is tomorrow, and a one-year ruling could come in between $4.5 and $5.2 million. If they are able to agree on a long-term deal, it could be at around $6 million per season.
Update – Adam Lowry and the Jets agree on a three-year deal at $8.75 million. Adam Lowry and the Jets have an arbitration hearing on Sunday. A one-year arbitration ruling could come in around $1.5 and $1.75 million cap hit. A longer-term deal could be in the $2 to $2.25 million range.
Brandon Tanev‘s hearing is next Wednesday. The Jets may go the two-year route with Tanev as he’d be a UFA after next season if it’s a one-year deal. He could be in the $1 to $1.5 million range.
Marko Dano‘s hearing is set for July 30th. Dano won’t be waiver exempt this season and could be claimed by someone if put on waivers. He could be looking for a one- or two-year at $800,000 to $900,000.
