On the Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings
Aaron Portzline: “#CBJ have expressed an interest in #RedWings D Niklas Kronwall, but unclear if he wants to leave Detroit near the end of his career. Kronwall a legacy player in Motown, of course.”
Craig Custance: “Told that Red Wings have not asked for Kronwall’s 10-team list and they won’t. This isn’t a normal transaction. A legacy player. Sounds like they’ll only approach him if there’s an offer worth having that conversation over.”
On the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers
Aaron Portzline: “#CBJ being in on D Adam McQuaid and Niklas Kronwall gives you the sense of what the Blue Jackets are looking for on the back end. Depth, sure, but snarl, too. Bet they regret letting Ian Cole walk over the summer.”
On the Blue Jackets and their goaltending situation
Aaron Portzline: “Don’t believe this portends a Sergei Bobrovsky trade, but we’ll see. Sense in goalie community as this trade percolated this morning is that Kinkaid is a more reliable option than Joonas Korpisalo should Bobrovsky struggle in post-season. See also if Korpisalo is now on the move.”
On the Los Angeles Kings
Dennis Bernstein: “Good morning from LA, interesting note from @DarrenDreger – once thought to be staying in LA and not available at deadline, Kings have reversed field as teams have reengaged on Tyler Toffoli. Jeff Carter remains in play.”
Dennis Bernstein: “my opinion on LAK landscape with understanding 1 call changes things: Tyler Toffoli/Trevor Lewis – in play, solid interest. Jeff Carter – little to no interest.”
On an Erik Karlsson – San Jose Sharks extension
Pierre LeBrun: “Don’t expect any big news on Erik Karlsson any time soon. As per the CBA he is allowed to sign a max, 8-year deal once the trade deadline passes but neither side in any hurry on the contract. Focus for the Sharks is on winning now. Lots of time between now and July 1 to get to it”
Ian Mendes: “Reminder: If Karlsson re-signs in San Jose, the Senators get an additional 2nd round pick from the Sharks in 2021.
If they re-sign Karlsson AND they get to the Stanley Cup Final this season, that becomes upgraded to a 1st round pick (not lottery protected) in 2021.”
