On the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche …
Thread between Adrian Dater, Joe Haggerty and Jimmy Murphy.
Adrian Dater: “Word on the street is Brandon Carlo may be back in play. Gonna be interesting how this shakes out”
Joe Haggerty: “Bruins management group should be fired on spot if they trade Brandon Carlo to get something to try & put them over hump this yr. Misguided”
Dater: “Luv ya Haggs, but getting 23-year-old former Calder winner, 20+ scorer every year of his career is short-term thinking?”
Jimmy Murphy: “Love you too Haggs but gotta agree w/Dater here. If you can keep McAvoy and have so much coming & you’re preaching playoffs, you do this!”
Joe Haggerty: “@MurphysLaw74 None of the D’s coming are a shutdown guy like Carlo, Murph. A mistake to deal him with Chara on his last legs. Desperate move”
Murphy: @HackswithHaggs also buddy why can’t they trade for a shutdown D too? Much easier to get than puck-mover or a 25 yr old top 6 F with term”
Haggerty: “@MurphysLaw74 Not easier to get one in 1st year of entry level. B’s mulling moves because jobs are in jeopardy, not because it’s right move”
Murphy: “@HackswithHaggs agreed but no hall of fame coaches coming up the pipeline either so firing one is answer?”
Haggerty: “@MurphysLaw74 It’s a better answer than trading a 20-year-old stud defenseman”
Murphy: “stud? He’d be lucky to crack top 4 on Wild, BJ’s, Caps and maybe Habs! All Cup contenders and Bruins aren’t”
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins had their Director of Player Personnel John Ferguson Jr. scouting the Avs-Blackhawks game last night, getting a look at Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene and Tyson Barrie.
The Bruins could use more size and scoring for the wing, something Landeskog brings. Word is the Bruins talked to the Avs about Landeskog earlier, but balked at giving up Brandon Carlo. Dater reported that may have changed now. Haggerty thinks that would be a huge mistake.
“The entire Bruins management group should be fired on the spot if they trade a 20-year-old, top pairing shutdown defenseman on an entry level contract like Carlo unless they are getting a bona fide superstar in return. Carlo, Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak should all be young, untouchable assets for a Bruins organization that is years away from legitimately holding a chance at a Stanley Cup.”
The Bruins have some nice young defenseman in the pipeline, but none are in the mold of Carlo.
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Trade talks are in the discussion stages, and GMs like Joe Sakic in Colorado and John Chayka in Arizona are overvaluing their players. They are trying to get to get a lot for players like Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Martin Hanzal and Radim Vrbata.
It doesn’t seem like the Bruins would consider firing Claude Julien during the season. May wait for the offseason if things don’t work out.
