Joe Haggerty: Defenseman Charlie McAvoy will have a follow-up appointment with doctors later this week. His return could be another week away, but it’s basically about how he feels.

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

Michael Smith: If Aho is medically cleared, he could return to the lineup tonight.

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

On the Montreal Canadiens …

Montreal Canadiens: Three players didn’t travel with the team to St. Louis: Phillip Danault is out indefinitely with concussion-like symptoms, Shea Weber is out indefinitely with a foot injury, and Andrew Shaw is out four-six weeks with a lower-body injury.

On the New Jersey Devils …

Chris Ryan: Looking like forward Taylor Hall is good to go tonight.

Chris Ryan: Goaltender Keith Kinkaid is still on the IR, but expect the Devils to switch him with Cory Schneider. Schneider was injured last Tuesday.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jason Mackey: The Penguins have recalled Jean-Sebastian Dea.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Coach Mike Sullivan on goaltender Matt Murray: “He is our number one goalie. We would like to get him in net as soon as we can, but we want to respect him and his situation.”

Pens Inside Scoop: Sullivan on Murray: “I do believe that Matt is in a good place right now and we’ll announce our goaltender as we always do on the game day.”

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: Defenseman Victor Hedman is traveling with the Lightning. He’s three weeks into his three- to six-week timeline.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Kristen Shilton: Coach Mike Babcock on defenseman Morgan Rielly who skated yesterday: “He says good. He thinks he’s farther ahead than the trainers, I don’t know who wins that one in the end; we’ll figure it out. But he says it’s going good.”

Dave McCarthy: Babcock said that forward Nikita Soshnikov would need a conditioning stint in the AHL. He’s been out since November 24th with a lower-body injury.

Kristen Shilton: Soshnikov has been skating for a while, but it hasn’t been an easy process. “You just try and , and it makes it worse, so you take a step back, and then you have to try and go forward again. So it was back and forth a little bit.”

Lance Hornby: Nikita Zaitsev looked good at practice. If he plays tomorrow, it would almost be seven weeks since breaking his foot.
