A tough decision is looming for the Buffalo Sabres

TSN: Darren Dreger said the Buffalo Sabres have some decisions to make regarding pending UFA forward Alex Tuch.

“Now what are you getting back for Alex Tuch? It would have to be a meaningful piece or pieces that could help this team this year. That seems like a bit of a stretch. And then the flip side to all of that is, who are the partners that you’re talking with if you’re willing to consider?

Jarmo Kekalainen is not going to strengthen another team in the East by sending them Alex Tuch, and again, if he sends him to the West, best-case scenario to get a return if that is paramount to the direction of the Buffalo Sabres. But you do that, and you weaken your existing roster.”

It’s quieter in Calgary

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast – The Penguins’ Impressive Sweep episode, on the Calgary Flames, and how things are quieter now after the Rasmus Andersson trade.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Friedman: “Calgary, I heard quiet right now. Of course, they’ll do something huge on Sunday, but I just heard, like, Anderson was the one that they had, had to get done they really felt. The other ones they got a bit more time with and Coleman’s been hurt.

I talked about St Louis. I think they got big prices on some things, but everybody knows they’re willing to do things.

But the other thing I mentioned on Saturday night Kyle, is that I think a guy like Rasmus Andersson was a little different, because the Golden Knights wanted him badly. And they were, they didn’t want anyone else to get him, but they almost lost him to Boston, almost.

You know, Boston had $63 million on the table, and I think I mentioned this on the last pod, but there were Calgary players who were under the impression he was going to take it. And the Golden Knights stepped up and they said, ‘Enough of this nonsense. We’re trading for this guy,’ and they got it done.

But I don’t necessarily think that Calgary’s in a rush to do anything else right now, and I also don’t think they’ve got anything that says we have to do something right now, as we record this, we’ll see what happens.”

NHL Rumors: Artemi Panarin Destinations, and a Trade Bait Board

Bukauskas: “With (Andersson) going to the Olympics, a factor too.”

Friedman: “Yeah.”
