NHL Rumors: Sabres, Devils, Wild and Avalanche

Semyon Varlamov of the Colorado Avalanche
On the Buffalo Sabres …

Paul Hamilton: The Sabres are looking at 24-year old KHL defenseman Viktor Antipin.

On the New Jersey Devils …

Tom Gulitti: Think the Devils are better off not trading Cory Schneider this offseason as it would just open up another big hole. Goaltenders also don’t traditionally bring in a big return.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Michael Russo: Wild GM Chuck Fletcher and Jordan Greenway’s advisor were to speak yesterday. The Wild would like to sign Greenway to an entry-level contract that would kick in next season if he wants to leave college.

Michael Russo: Greenway could sign an amateur tryout with Iowa (AHL) and play for a few weeks there. If he does that, he’ll have to leave school early.

On the Colorado Avalanche …

Terry Frei of the Denver Post: Goaltender Semyon Varlamov carries a $5.9 million contract for another two seasons. Nobody is likely to trade for him, and he won’t be selected in the expansion draft. Vegas GM George McPhee had Varlamov Washington and had health concerns about him back then before trading him to the Avs in 2011.

GM Joe Sakic will once again re-visit trade talks involving Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog.

The Avs need to improve their defense. Nikita Zadorov is progressing. Tyson Barrie can’t be expected to play big minutes.

The Avs are still waiting to hear if 2016 1st round pick Tyson Jost will leave school early.
